Duties: Your job will be to participate in a larger EU-funded project focusing on the predation on coastal fish. You will explore, analyze, and publish studies on the impact of predation on coastal fish like cod, flounder and eel. Part of your work will be collecting and analyzing seal-scats and cormorant pellets and estimate the total predation on different species using state of the art modeling techniques. You will be provided with a substantial dataset from earlier analyses and data on predation of PIT-tagged cod, flounder and eel from a pilot study. You will also be involved in teaching including supervision of BSc and MSc student projects. One of the work packages in the project focus on incorporating the results of predation quantifications into fisheries management models, so you will also become familiar with single- and multi-species models and their use in modern fisheries management

Duties: You will work on a project to design fluorinated polymers prepared through light-induced polymerization. The design space for finding the optimal composition and synthesis conditions for polymer electrolytes is too vast to explore manually. Therefore, we are combining self-driving labs, high-throughput atomic scale simulations, and AI to transition to digitalization-based automation of electrolyte development. The immediate goal is to create and utilize digital twins to develop high-performing polymer electrolytes for Mg-ion batteries (i.e., high ionic conductivity, coulombic efficiency, and cyclability at a low cost). However, we expect the gained know-how and infrastructure to be transferred to other battery chemistries and power-to-X applications

Duties: Recent improvements in machine learning have dramatically improved the accessibility of de novo protein design. In this project, we seek to exploit these developments to interrogate the role and mechanisms of receptor signalling in neuronal plasticity. The center of Excellence for “Protein in Memory” seeks to understand the molecular basis for memory with an emphasis on protein mechanism. Recent developments in protein structure prediction (e.g. AlphaFold2) and protein de novo design (e.g. RFDiffusion) have opened new possibilities for probing such mechanisms. The project will seek to use existing algorithms to new biological problems and is thus not focused on development of computational methods. We wish to generate small protein binders against a range of important neuroscience targets and use these for mechanistic studies in cellular models
Requirements: The project will involve both experimental and computational work and the candidate is expected to be comfortable with both.
