Aufgaben: The RECHEWS project is based on use of Microbial Mixed Culture to produce PHA from VFA. The process is sensitive to the content of volatile fatty acids (VFA) of the fed material, then it is important to develop a process that allows selective production of these intermediates. To achieve this target, the main objective of the research grant will be to test processes aimed at obtaining VFA as well as testing the VFA produced within the RECHEWS process to obtain PHA, subsequently thermally converted into alkenoic acids. VFA will be obtained through acidogenic fermentation. Electrochemical acidification followed by vacuum stripping will be applied for VFA recovery. The main activities will be the development of online analytical methods for the monitoring of biological processes as well as the design, construction and operation of pilot plants, the analysis of process flows as well as the evaluation of the overall mass balance

The final objective will be the development and validation according to international guidelines of an original sampling and analysis platform characterized by a high degree of miniaturization, which will be exploited to obtain solid qualitative-quantitative data relating to metabolic, pharmacokinetic and stability investigations, guaranteeing the while reliable and logistically feasible workflows
