Position: Junior Professor (W1) in Data-driven Methods and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

Duties: junior professor position in the area of data-driven methods and nonlinear partial differential equations, to be filled as soon as possible. Research should focus on interactions between mathematical models based on differential equations and empirical data. Topics of particular interest are at the interface of machine learning and data science to mathematical and numerical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations, such as inverse problems and data assimilation, model reduction and operator learning, nonlinear approximation in high-dimensional problems, data-driven and stochastic solution concepts, optimal transport in statistical problems, or applications of data-driven modelling. Active participation in the existing research programs such as Collaborative Research Center 1481 “Sparsity and Singular Structures” and Research Training Group 2326 “Energy, Entropy, and Dissipative Dynamics” will be desirable. Adequate participation in the teaching duties of the Department of Mathematics is expected
Requirements: university degree and a particular ability to undertake academic work, which is generally demonstrated by an outstanding doctorate. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years
