Posting Details Position Information Position Title Research Assistant Professor: Cancer Biology Job Type Faculty Position Information The University of Maryland Eastern Shore ( UMES ) Futures Institute invites applications for a full-time, grant-funded, non-tenure track position. University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore ( UMES ) is the 1890-Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA are within easy travel distance. Responsibilities Conducts research including implementing ongoing collaborative research projects among UMES scientists on cancer biology. Conducts research and develops wearable devices for early detection and analysis of particular types of cancer. Works with the Futures Institute faculty for hypothesis development and experimental design. Conduct benchwork with various lab techniques and leading research projects in studying the mechanism and therapeutic options for cancer. Designs and develops wearable devices capable of detecting cancer from the body’s interstitial fluid. Collaborates with clinicians, bioinformaticians, and other lab members in lab research activities. Conducts data processing, analysis, reporting, manuscript preparation, and presentations. Assists in managing the research in the lab. Mentor and supervise PhD students. Applies for grant funding in collaboration with other faculty. Performs other related duties as assigned. Classification 25-0000 Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology, or a related discipline from a US R1 university or foreign equivalent. Note: Individuals with degrees outside of the US may be subject to verification at the expense of the candidate. Postdoctoral experience at a leading research university. Refereed publications in leading scientific journals. Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Must have strong written and communications skills. Ability to form collaborative partnerships. Must have the potential to develop and deploy innovative approaches to cancer diagnosis and interventions. Ability to work with diverse faculty and student body.
