Position: Research Fellow in Advanced Electromagnetic Channel Modelling

Duties: This exciting role will undertake research on first-principle electromagnetic channel modelling that includes but is not limited to: Advanced electromagnetics methods for universal channel modelling, numerical methods for wave propagation in complex environments, statistical electromagnetics, computational electromagnetics, implementation of full-wave commercial solvers (e.g., COMSOL), standard 3GPP channel models
Requirements: A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or other areas related to RF/Microwave Engineering; Expertise in advanced theoretical and computational electromagnetics; Recent research experience in the development of first-principle wave models; Recent research experience in the development of numerical codes for complex electromagnetic scattering scenarios, and the use of full-wave commercial electromagnetics software; Good knowledge of the main standard channel models (e.g., 3GPP)

The role The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) home of the 5G/6G Innovation Centre (5G/6GIC) is looking to recruit a research fellow in in Advanced Electromagnetic Channel Modelling. This exciting role will undertake research on first-principle electromagnetic channel modelling that includes but is not limited to: Advanced electromagnetics methods for universal channel modelling, numerical methods for wave propagation in complex environments, statistical electromagnetics, computational electromagnetics, implementation of full-wave commercial solvers (e.g., COMSOL), standard 3GPP channel models. ICS is the largest academic research institute in Europe specialising in all aspects of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). It is home to over 200 researchers with expertise in all communication and broadcasting systems and has developed the best-in-class large scale testbeds for research and innovation and enjoys the state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities. Established in 2012, 5GIC is the world’s first dedicated centre in researching end-to-end aspects of 5G and works closely with national and international leading academic institutes and key industrial partners. In November 2020, 6GIC was officially launched with parallel research undertaken in both 5G and 6G for 2030 . About you The post holder will be required to have: A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or other areas related to RF/Microwave Engineering. Expertise in advanced theoretical and computational electromagnetics. Recent research experience in the development of first-principle wave models. Recent research experience in the development of numerical codes for complex electromagnetic scattering scenarios, and the use of full-wave commercial electromagnetics software. Good knowledge of the main standard channel models (e.g., 3GPP) Strong research and analytical (mathematical) skills. Proven track record of innovation supported by publications in high ranked journals and conferences. Very good written and verbal communication skills. The post holder will have authority over some aspects of project work and must be capable of providing academic judgement, offering original and creative thoughts and be able to interpret and analyse results.
