Position: Rheumatology Research Chair

This program of research will be fully integrated across Nova Scotia Health and Dalhousie University
Requirements: The successful candidate will have an MD with FRCPC or equivalent training in rheumatology, as well as a career-stage appropriate proven track record/potential for independent scholarship in the area of rheumatology research. Previous success in obtaining peer reviewed publications and research is an expectation, as is proven success in fostering broad-based collaborative research. Experience with advising local, provincial, regional and national leadership in research and outcomes for patients with arthritis and related conditions would be an asset

The successful candidate for the Chair position will join the Division of Rheumatology at the Nova Scotia Health Authority and Dalhousie University as a major researcher. The objective of the Chair is to support research in the area of arthritis and related conditions, to improve outcomes for current and future patients, and to increase access to world-leading treatment for patients in Nova Scotia. This program of research will be fully integrated across Nova Scotia Health and Dalhousie University. To apply, please submit an electronic copy of your curriculum vitae, a two-page description of your research program and a future research roadmap, and the names and contact information of three referees (two of whom must be from academic backgrounds) who may be contacted for references, if required. The Chair will sit within the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, and will be expected to establish an active research program advancing research in the area of rheumatology, with independent, external, peer-reviewed research funding. Furthermore, the Chair will provide leadership and mentorship to those involved in rheumatology research in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. The chair will serve as a catalyst for further research and program funding while developing and enhancing collaborative relationships with policy makers, administrators and practitioners in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have an MD with FRCPC or equivalent training in rheumatology, as well as a career-stage appropriate proven track record/potential for independent scholarship in the area of rheumatology research. The successful candidate for the Chair will also be granted a continuing academic appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Medical Staff or Affiliated Medical Staff status in accordance with Nova Scotia Health Authority. The Chair position is a five-year limited term appointment, with renewal(s) following a review of the incumbent in the fourth year of each five-year term. The term will start annually on July 1. Annual funding for the Chair requires that the successful candidate maintain a clinical and academic appointment in the Department of Medicine and remain in good standing. Rank will be at the Assistant, Associate, or (Full) Professor rank, as appropriate to seniority, and will include a minimum of 50% protected time for research. The recruitment and appointment of the Chair will be in accordance with Dalhousie’s Academic Recruitment and Selection Guidelines.
