Areas of research that illustrate the types of questions one could explore, include, but are not limited to: the use of the upcoming EarthCare satellite mission and the ICON climate model to understand specific climate related processes; the upscale influence of km-scale land surface hydrology including sub-surface water flows; the upscale effects of complex topography on atmospheric circulation; boundary layer processes and their effect on atmosphere-ocean interaction at the mesoscale; factors influencing the development of rainfall extremes
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Physics, Meteorology, Atmospheric or Climate Sciences or a related discipline by the start date. Preferably within three years of PhD; A track record of excellent, and topically relevant, scholarly contributions (as measured by the quality, rather than quantity of contribution); Interest and dexterity in the application of high-performance computing to the execution and analysis of numerical simulation; Ability to work in a team, and independently in ways that complements the department’s activities; Fluency in written and spoken English
