The new professor of Statistics and Econometrics will join the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics at WU’s Department of Finance, Accounting and Statistics. Members of the Institute are affiliated with the PhD Label ‘Mathematics in Economics and Business’, a high-level PhD program. Further, the Institute is responsible for the education in mathematics, statistics and econometrics in WU’s undergraduate programs and is running the reputed MSc program ‘Quantitative Finance’ in close cooperation with the Institute of Finance Banking and Insurance. A) Qualifications The successful candidate is expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field and to have outstanding qualifications. Candidates’ qualifications will be assessed in the context of their academic age. Candidates must have: a) A solid academic qualification (e.g. PhD, habilitation or equivalent) in statistics and econometrics or a related area; b) An outstanding international reputation for high quality scholarship in the area of statistics and econometrics commensurate with academic age, especially by having demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals in the field; c) A strong background in applied probability and computing; d) Excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate levels; e) proven international experience; f) a strong record in attracting research funding; g) leadership qualities; h) gender and diversity management skills. We are particularly interested in researchers whose scientific work focuses on the computational aspects of modern techniques in statistics and econometrics and their application to the analysis of large data sets. Page 3 of 3 B) What we expect from the successful candidate The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching activities at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD/doctorate, and executive education), both in the classroom and in distance-learning formats. Full professors are expected to teach 8 weekly credit hours. In particular, we expect a strong commitment to assume the role of a module coordinator for the bachelor-level education in statistics and econometrics and the econometrics courses in WU's Master Program in Quantitative Finance. We also expect the new professor to take an active role in the university’s self-governance and third mission activities.
