Position Summary The major responsibilities for this position are to conduct research associated with the development and validation of microbial strains that increase the production of synthesized materials and to develop and valid methods of culturing the bacteria for maximum production of the synthesized materials in as short a growth cycle as possible. In addition to managing a molecular biology research team, the chosen Assistant Research Scientist will also work with a multi-disciplined team of faculty, staff and students within the New Materials Institute to succeed in research objectives defined by the grant sponsor. For all candidates, salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications and the personnel budget from the grant supporting the position. The successful candidate will join the New Materials Institute currently consisting of five full-time faculty members (tenured and non-tenured), 8 staff and approximately 6 graduate and undergraduate students and ten dedicated technicians Additional Requirements All candidates are expected to have post-doctoral training in molecular biology, microbial genetics or equivalent and at least 15 years of experience in the genetic manipulation of bacteria with an emphasis on microbial synthesis of products based engineered changes to the microbial genome. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Demonstrated expertise in working with multi-disciplined teams of scientist in the research and development of microbial strains with specific functional attributes is preferred.
