Stonebridge Dr., McKinney, Texas Job number: 15090 Apply Now Job Description: Vice President and Managing Actuary Primary Duties & Responsibilities The Vice President and Managing Actuary manages multiple teams within a key functional area of the Actuarial Department, owns short and mid-term strategy execution that ensures the Departments continuing mission to support sustainable growth of sales while managing risk and ensuring solvency, implements strategies that provide the company with strategic advantages in pricing and profitability, provides overall leadership within the Actuarial Department, influences key decision makers within the organization, and communicates clearly with Department and Company management. The key functional areas are Actuarial Experience and Assumption Delivery and Underwriting Technologies. Actuarial Experience and Assumption Delivery Overall responsibility for designing systems and processes for actuarial assumptions to support Globe Life’s life insurance financial reporting, pricing, and governance objectives. Ensure on-time delivery Develop and execute strategy to leverage both Predictive Analytics and Artificial Intelligence techniques to advance processes and improve outcomes Identify and implement process improvements to streamline decision-making Develop clear communication of outcomes Support needs of internal and external auditors and regulators Underwriting Technologies Lead actuarial efforts to evaluate underwriting technologies including their effects on systems, processes, underwriting outcomes, issue-rates, and mortality. Evaluate and make recommendations for new technologies or methods. Evaluate and make recommendations for changes to current processes, including decisions made with currently available data and information. Collaborate with Globe Life’s Underwriting Leadership, Sales Leadership, Other New Business Administrative areas and Actuarial Department to seek underwriting solutions that maximize sales opportunities and long-term profit results. Other Responsibilities Oversee project and process management for areas of responsibility Provide personal and professional development for staff Collaborate with other Actuarial functions including Data Analytics and Enablement, Valuation and Financial Reporting, Product and Pricing Contribute to overall Actuarial Department leadership and decision-making through Globe Actuarial’ s Executive Actuarial Team, Actuarial Leadership Team, and Actuarial Governance Committee Prepare and make presentations to Globe Life Senior Executives and Board of Directors as needed Assist with acquisitions as needed Required Skills Communication: Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders with data, dashboards, and visualizations Direct communication with Senior Executives and Globe Life Board of Directors Modeling: Expert skills in mathematical and statistical techniques to foster fact-based decision-making Familiarity with actuarial modeling software and systems and ability to learn and use Polysystems Familiarity with database design and structure and ability to use and understand SQL Leading: A passion to develop people, build relationships, and a growth mindset. Required Knowledge & Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, and/or Data Science Industry: 10 years working in the insurance industry Familiarity with AAA Standards of Practice Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations Familiarity with insurance company audit and governance practices and standards Mortality Modeling and Assumptions Experience performing lapse and mortality experience studies and the development of lapse and mortality assumptions for pricing, valuation or other projection purposes. Familiarity with insurance company underwriting practices and procedures and the effects of underwriting on actuarial assumptions and experience Leading: 3 years of experience leading or managing actuarial teams and processes Project management experience Location: 3700 S.
