Responsibilities: This is a renewable 12-month Term Instructional Faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank with a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the College of Science STEM Accelerator Program. In addition to an academic appointment in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary unit that consists of full-time faculty from Biology, Physics & Astronomy, Forensic Science, Geology, and Chemistry in the COS STEM Accelerator. During the summer months, this position is wholly dedicated to the COS STEM Accelerator Program. Summer STEM activities include, but are not limited to, boot camps for majors and STEM summer bridge camps. Required Qualifications: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mathematical sciences, mathematics education or a closely related field; All candidates must have 18 credit hours of graduate level mathematics to qualify for the position. Teaching experience at the college/university level; and Ability to coordinate STEM education programs. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with grant writing and administration; Demonstrated experience and interest in inquiry-based learning, active learning, and/or other interactive classroom instructional models; Research or pedagogical experience in critical, feminist, or rehumanizing approaches to teaching and learning; and Applicants willing to conduct research involving undergraduates are encouraged to apply, but conducting research is not a requirement of the position. About The Department: The Mathematical Sciences Department offers undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in pure, applied, and computational mathematics, as well as the first actuarial program in the state of Virginia.
