Position: Junior Group Leader Position (f*m) - Sustainable Urban Regions

Duties: The successful candidate will be in charge of building a strong research programme in the field of sustainable urban planning from a social science perspective. This may include contributions to societal relevant research on climate and energy crises, land consumption, and settlement development in an urban regional context as well as to propose prevention strategies in scientific and societal debates. Following the tradition of the ISR, the candidate is expected to have experience or at least the willingness to work with an innovative, inter- and transdisciplinary range of qualitative and quantitative methods
Requirements: PhD in the field of socio-spatial research (geography, sociology, economic geography, spatial research, spatial planning, spatial statistics …); Thematic background within the national (Austrian) planning system as well as international experience; focus on sustainable settlement structures in an urban and suburban environment

The initial appointment will be limited to 6 years, including a tenure - track option. Y our tasks: The successful candidate will be in charge of building a strong research programme in the field of s ustainable n urban regional context as well as to propose preventi the candidate is expected to have experience or at least the willingness to work with an innovative, inter - and transdisciplinary range of qualitative and quantitative m ethods . Further, t he candidate is expected to gain a deeper understanding of the Austrian spatial planning system, governance culture, and its European context. The research design of the new working group should provide interfaces to the existing working groups of the ISR.
