Position Information Position Information Working Title Applied Meteorologist/Mesonet Manager Department School of Natural Resources-0844 Requisition Number F_220251 Posting Open Date 12/14/2022 Application Review Date: (To ensure consideration, please submit all application materials before review date) 01/16/2023 Posting Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Description of Work The School of Natural Resources within the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources ( IANR ) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ) is seeking applications for an Applied Meteorologist/Mesonet Manager position at the rank of Assistant Geoscientist. This 12-month (calendar year), non-tenure track appointment will lead fiscal, operational, and data management, and engage funders, stakeholders, and the greater scientific community. This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Specific duties for this position: Within the Nebraska State Climate Office, provide leadership for Nebraska Mesonet operations, including contract and funding management, supervision of technical and student employees, and scientific advancement of the network. Engage with end-users of Mesonet data and products. Oversee the development of weather and climate data applications. Design and implement best management practices for field and technical operations. Develop outreach strategies for Mesonet client engagement. Collaborate with University clients on data delivery and climate product development. Provide weather and climate assistance to Extension programming efforts. Document operational procedures and collaborate with Mesonet programs nationwide. Manage Mesonet contracts, including but not limited to individual station clients, the National Mesonet Program, Natural Resource Districts, and state agencies. Design research and development strategies and implement long-term planning. Preferred Qualifications Experience in weather network design and implementation (e.g. Campbell Scientific or similar). Public outreach and engagement experience. Expertise in systems administration and web development.
