Requirements: Master, PhD or equivalent experience in computer science, chemistry, biology, or physics, with a focus on supporting drug discovery scientists and processes; 5+ years of experience in scientific computing in a pharma research environment; Excellent overview about the drug discovery process in pharma/biotech; Solid Cheminformatics and/or bioinformatics knowledge

Role Main purpose: Apply your scientific and computational skills to maximize data impact from automated systems across all three Drug Discovery Divisions (Pharmacology & Preclinical Development, Chemistry and Biology). Achieve this by contributing to software development squads that require significant computational effort due to scale and complexity (eg. Genomics, Virtual Screening). Develop and promote self-service models for analytics tools and data. Integrate commercial tools when needed and contribute to the strategy and implementation of a common data architecture. Supports the strategy definition for machine learning (including deep learning), cloud computing, and computational biology and chemistry. Scale up existing solutions or prototypes into reliable and consistent cloud-based cloud solutions. Lead commercial software customization, migration, and integration efforts. Foster an efficient collaboration with the IT department, especially the infrastructure team. Ensure an aligned culture of excellence in software design and coding standards. Encourage the use of modern software development methodologies. Candidate’s Requirements Education: Master, PhD or equivalent experience in computer science, chemistry, biology, or physics, with a focus on supporting drug discovery scientists and processes Job experience: 5 years of experience in scientific computing in a pharma research environment Skills (functional/technical): Excellent overview about the drug discovery process in pharma / biotech Solid Cheminformatics and/or bioinformatics knowledge Data-driven mindset, ability to understand different data domains, find technical solutions to manage data using modern distributed systems architectures. Strategic thinking with the ability to make the right decisions in a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) environment Experience in scientific software engineering and architecture: Java and common frameworks Terraform for Infrastructure as Code. Python/R/JS experience also welcome. Strong DevOps/IaC thinking - most things are code; most code is built with pipelines. In-depth knowledge of when and how to use a broad range of data tools. Workflow management systems (nextflow, KNIME, AWS Step Functions). Serverless data storage (S3, RDMS, NoSQL, Athena/Hive) Serverless data processing (Docker, AWS Batch, AWS Lambda). REST using Spring Boot AWS API Gateway Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and machine learning Lean thinking capability to drive process simplicity throughout the organization by leveraging technology solutions AWS Certified: Solutions Architect, Developer or Operations preferred.
