Position Details Summary Operating Title Assistant or Associate Professor of Robotics - Tenure Track OR Teaching Faculty Long Classification Title Campus Location Plymouth Department PSU E&D Computational and Applied Mathematics & Physical Sciences Summary of Position The Computer Science and Technology Program at Plymouth State University invites qualified applicants to apply for a full time, 9-month, Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor or Non-Tenure Track Teaching Faculty to Commence in August 2023. We seek a dynamic colleague committed to teaching excellence, student development, and service. Preference will be given to those with a PhD in robotics, systems engineering, or an associated field, or an MS in those fields and 3-5 years experience in the industry. The successful applicant will join an existing team of dedicated, innovative individuals and will teach the Robotics sequence. They will also teach other courses across the CS&T discipline as assigned by the program coordinator and General Education Courses as needed. They will enhance and significantly grow our existing Robotics Program. The successful candidate will also help to develop our Robotics lab and recruit students by forging relationships with local community colleges and high schools. Establishing relationships with local robotics companies is a natural outcome of this person’s role. Application reviews will begin on January 15, 2023. The department currently offers three undergraduate degree programs: a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.S. in information Technology, and a new B.S. in robotics. At present, the department has five full-time faculty, several part-time faculty and serves approximately 150 majors. The department continues to explore innovative approaches, and adopt emerging technologies, to further improve Computer Science and Information Technology education. It also plays a vital role in Plymouth State’s General Education program, as well as the cluster-based environment, towards which the university is moving. The new and developing Robotics program has significant support from the administration, especially during this transformative time of innovation and development. Additional Job Information See more information: COMPUTER SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY Posting Number PF0724FY23 Acceptable Minimum Qualifications The search is open to all robotics-related fields, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. But, preference is given to applicants with broad-based knowledge, practice and skills in Robotics and Mechatronics. Earned doctorate or Masters degree with 3 to 5 years experience in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field. A broad-based systems-oriented perspective is essential. ABDs will be considered for the tenure-track position, but must have doctorate in hand before the starting date. Master’s degrees in related field will be considered for a non-Tenure Track position. A record of scholarship or strong potential for scholarship and/or experience as a practitioner in industry University-level teaching experience in Mechanical / Electrical / Computer / Systems Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or Computer Science discipline. Experience with high-impact, engaging learning techniques in the classroom. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated collegiality and ability to collaborate with colleagues. Demonstrated commitment to success of all students. Interest in engaging in multidisciplinary research and project involving collaboration with internal and external partners. Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience as a practitioner in industry. Interest or experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Robotics, Digital Systems, Microcontroller and Distributed Systems. Experience working on interdisciplinary projects.
