Position: Associate Research Fellow

Requirements: A tertiary qualification at a Masters by research level, or equivalent research experience in a public health, epidemiology, public policy or related discipline; Knowledge and experience related to food and nutrition/obesity prevention policy; Emerging research and scholarship through publication of research journal articles, conference papers and reports

The Associate Research Fellow will conduct cutting-edge research in the area of obesity prevention and population nutrition as part of a world-class research team. Specifically, the Associate Research Fellow will play a leading role in a new research project that aims to improve the nutrition-related policies and practices of local government-owned facilities in Victoria. This is a 6-month new fixed-term position funded by a grant from the NHMRC. There is the potential to extend the contract for up to a total of 5 years for the life of the project grant. Your key responsibilities will include: Conducting high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship Engaging collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities Conducting and analysing surveys, observations, interviews, focus groups, and co-designing workshops Contributing to building an active national research record, preparing findings for oral and written communication including publications Supporting with the preparation of ethics application Effectively maintaining and producing data, maintaining data protocols, and entering data into the relevant database Conducting preliminary data cleaning, screening, and analysis Communicating outputs, including as part of team Ensuring impact of academic activity on the field and the community Coordinating undergraduate student placements and research assistants, with assistance Beginning to build body of work and reputation and recognition for quality, excellence and impact Beginning to build track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners Undertaking some administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research Key selection criteria for this role: A tertiary qualification at a Masters by research level, or equivalent research experience in a public health, epidemiology, public policy or related discipline. Demonstrated organisational skills including the demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of data record keeping and a demonstrated ability to meet competing deadlines. Experience in working with computer-based data acquisition and analysis systems. Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct high quality research. Demonstrated ability to liaise with collaborators and external parties in a highly professional manner.
