Position: Senior Data Visualisation Engineer
Institution: Novartis AG
Location: Basel, Switzerland
Duties: Contribute to the architecture and technical development of data mining applications, embedding visualisations in existing software and new applications, develop custom solutions for specific projects, contribute to visualisation library development; Influence without direct authority, helping to define our visualisation development strategy, including identifying opportunities for re-use and promoting and improving current scientific visualisations. Develop and champion best practice guidance across our department, proactively evaluate novel technologies, scientific software, visualisation tools and new approaches to computation to increase efficiency and quality of the Novartis Data Sciences practices
Requirements: BA/BS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics or other quantitative or scientific discipline with 10-15 years’ experience, or MS with 5-10; Deep understanding of biomarker and omics data types and common visualization techniques for biomarker data; Significant development experience in R & Python including a variety of visualization technologies in a scientific context: Frameworks such as RShiny, Dash, React

This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. As Senior Data Visualisation Engineer, you will be a member of our team which helps to understand complex and critical business problems then formulate integrated engineering solutions (identify opportunities and shape visualization strategies, develop libraries, contribute to data mining applications) to contribute to solving unmet medical needs and discover actionable insights. Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: • Contribute to the architecture and technical development of data mining applications, embedding visualisations in existing software and new applications, develop custom solutions for specific projects, contribute to visualisation library development. • Influence without direct authority, helping to define our visualisation development strategy, including identifying opportunities for re-use and promoting and improving current scientific visualisations. Develop and champion best practice guidance across our department, proactively evaluate novel technologies, scientific software, visualisation tools and new approaches to computation to increase efficiency and quality of the Novartis Data Sciences practices. • Innovate by transforming data science using software engineering solutions. Articulates solutions /recommendations to business users. Presents technical content concisely and effectively to scientific audiences and influences non-analytical business leaders to drive major strategic decisions basis analytical inputs. • Coordinates, prioritises and efficiently allocates the team resources to critical initiatives: plans resources proactively, anticipates and actively manages change, sets stakeholder expectations as required, identifies operational risks and enable the team to drives issues to resolution, balances multiple priorities and minimizes surprise escalations • Ensures exemplary communication with all stakeholders including senior business leaders • Contribute to the development of Novartis data science capabilities. • Makes right choices from a breadth of tools, data sources and analytical techniques to answer a wide range of critical business questions Diversity & Inclusion / EEO Novartis is committed to building an outstanding, inclusive work environment and diverse teams representative of the patients and communities we serve.
