Job description With the deployment and commercialization of 5G networks well underway, researchers from academic institutions and the wireless industry are increasingly turning their attention to the design of the next generation of mobile networks. The 6th generation (6G) will take the form of a “network of networks” and enable a set of novel exciting applications, such as multisensory extended reality applications towards the metaverse, connected robotics and autonomous systems, or massive application of digital twins. For these applications to become a reality, a set of key enabling technologies needs to be developed in the current decade, including the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for radio interface optimization, the design of transceivers and their associated air interface in sub-THz and THz frequency bands, novel communication protocols tailored to support extreme communication requirements, and the development of highly accurate positioning and radio imaging solutions. To boost research and ensure European leadership in the in the development, deployment, and adoption of 6G technologies, the European Commission (EC) launched in 2021 the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU). The SNS-JU is a partnership between EC and Industry that aims to invest at least €1.8 billion in an R&I program in the timeframe 2021—2027, in the form of competitive grants for cooperative academic-industrial research projects. Phase 1 of the program is expected to start early 2023, and Aalborg University will participate in multiple of the granted projects. Within the above context, the Wireless Communication Networks (WCN) at the Department of Electronic Systems is looking for highly qualified and skilled postdoctoral researchers to participate in the projects. Through your participation in the projects, you will have a chance to interact and cooperate with some of the best renowned institutions and researchers from the European academic and industrial wireless landscape, as well as contribute to the design of the wireless networks of the future. You should be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge and a competitive research record in one or more of the following areas: The physical layer and air interface of modern communication systems (e.g. 5G), as well as signal processing methods for algorithmic design. ML and AI techniques and their application to relevant problems in wireless networks. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, including millimeter-wave communications. Medium access control and modern channel access techniques, in both licensed and unlicensed spectra Radio resource management and dynamic spectrum sharing policies A solid mathematical background and significant experience in scientific computing programming (MATLAB, Python, C/C ) are also a prerequisite. In addition, you are able to independently conduct research and dissemination at a high international level, have excellent scientific communication skills, and strong teamwork competences. You may obtain further professional information from Associate Professor, Gilberto Berardinelli, email gb@es.aau.dk; or Associate Professor Ramoni Adeogun, email ra@es.aau.dk . Qualification requirements: Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD-level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University. The application must contain the following: A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated. A current curriculum vitae. Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation. Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 5 publications. Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like. Additional qualifications in relation to the position. References/recommendations. Personal data. The applications are only to be submitted online by using the "Apply online" button below. Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. All applicants will be informed as to whether they will advance to assessment or not. AAU wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background or belief.
