For these applications to become a reality, a set of key enabling technologies needs to be developed in the current decade, including the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for radio interface optimization, the design of transceivers and their associated air interface in sub-THz and THz frequency bands, novel communication protocols tailored to support extreme communication requirements, and the development of highly accurate positioning and radio imaging solutions. To boost research and ensure European leadership in the in the development, deployment, and adoption of 6G technologies, the European Commission (EC) launched in 2021 the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU). The SNS-JU is a partnership between EC and Industry that aims to invest at least €1.8 billion in an R&I program in the timeframe 2021—2027, in the form of competitive grants for cooperative academic-industrial research projects. Phase 1 of the program is expected to start early 2023, and Aalborg University will participate in multiple of the granted projects. Within the above context, the Wireless Communication Networks (WCN) at the Department of Electronic Systems is looking for highly qualified and skilled postdoctoral researchers to participate in the projects.
