Position 1 Working with Dr. Denise Lillvis , EEH Assistant Professor, Division of Health Services Policy and Practice, the postdoctoral associate will collaborate on research projects pertaining to children and youth with special health care needs ( CYSHCN ) and enhance their quantitative skills working with large administrative datasets as part of a research team. Primary responsibilities include using and linking these datasets to investigate research questions relating to underlying injury risk, health care utilization, care quality, and social determinants of health as they pertain to CYSHCN ; directing students and trainees assisting with research; and presenting research results in the form of conference presentations and written manuscripts. The postdoctoral associate will also be given the opportunity to pursue independent lines of inquiry related to improving health outcomes for CYSHCN . Position 2 Working with Dr. Pauline Mendola , EEH Chair and Professor, the postdoctoral associate will work on research projects related to reproductive health and the environment, including but not limited to air pollution, temperature and other aspects of the ambient and social environment. Other areas of research supported include the impact of chronic disease (particularly asthma) on pregnancy and life-long health effects associated with pregnancy complications. Primary responsibilities include supporting ongoing research efforts as well as developing independent research projects and grant writing. The candidate will be expected to manage and analyze existing data, work as part of a functional team, write manuscripts and present research results at scientific conferences. Depending on interest, the candidate may also participate in an ongoing clinical trial of post-partum hypertension and depression. The postdoctoral associates should be self-motivated, creative, productive, and organized. Successful candidates should possess advanced expertise in statistical programming languages such as SAS , Stata and/or R. Perhaps most importantly, the postdoctoral associates should have a passion for improving health outcomes for women and children, particularly among vulnerable populations. There is funding available for these positions for two years, however, the appointment will be reviewed and renewed on an annual basis. Extension beyond two years may be possible depending upon continued funding and further evaluation. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in a related field. Preferred Qualifications PhD in quantitative public health field (e.g., health services, epidemiology or biostatistics) preferred. Candidates from the social sciences with strong quantitative skills (e.g., economics, political science, sociology) and an interest in health-related research will also be considered.
