Requirements: Master’s degree or PhD (preferable) in either Health Economics or Epidemiology with a strong quantitative focus or Applied Statistics; Demonstrated interest in, and experience with, transmission modelling of infectious diseases and simulation-based, probabilistic cost-effectiveness analysis of health interventions. On-the-ground experience with costing interventions is a plus
   
Text: The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 900 people from 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions. The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), within Swiss TPH, develops and applies epidemiological, statistical and mathematical methods to advance innovation, validation and application in the field of public health. Within our Households Economics and Health Systems Research Unit we are seeking a highly motivated Economic evaluation specialist (60 - 100%) to support our research effort on economic evaluations of public health interventions in low- and middle-income countries. The research associate or post-doctoral fellow will support a range of research activities and projects assessing costs and cost-effectiveness of strategies to control infectious diseases (sleeping sickness, typhoid fever, and TB). The candidate will also contribute to other projects in the unit. There will be opportunity to lead and seek funding for research aligned with the unit’s goals and the candidate’s interests. This would be an excellent position for a master’s level individual to gain experience before a PhD, or for a PhD-level individual to develop an independent scientific career. To best fit the requirements of the position, we expect the following qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD (preferable) in either Health Economics or Epidemiology with a strong quantitative focus or Applied Statistics Demonstrated interest in, and experience with, transmission modelling of infectious diseases and simulation-based, probabilistic cost-effectiveness analysis of health interventions. On-the-ground experience with costing interventions is a plus.
