The Cybersecurity Analyst for Research is a level II cybersecurity position as part of the Information Security Office, in the Office of Information Technology ( OIT ) and must maintain advanced technology and cybersecurity expertise to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability standards are met consistent with contractual and regulatory compliance, U of I policy and in support of the U of I mission and strategic direction. The position plays a vital role in protecting research data by being a dedicated resource to principal investigators that utilize information technology in their daily research activities, and in all stages of the proposal and project lifecycle. This position works collaboratively with OIT , the Office of Research, Research Computing and Data Services and other campus departments to deliver an information security program to meet the needs of the University of Idaho’s teaching, learning and research mission across the State of Idaho Unit Overview The Information Security Office, part of the Office of Information Technology ( OIT ), works collaboratively with OIT , the Office of Research, and other campus departments to deliver an information security program to meet the needs of the University of Idaho’s teaching, learning, and research mission across the State of Idaho. Key Accountability Improve the efficiency, security, and effectiveness of IT processes, services, and increase personal job knowledge, by: Job Duties Seeking opportunities for and communicating to supervisor training/education needs to increase personal job knowledge and skills. Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of state and federal security and privacy compliance standards and advise on the impact to university research and technology. Maintaining and understanding emerging trends in technology security. Participating in directed technical education as appropriate. Attending conferences and professional seminars in order to share practices with professional peers around the nation. Identifying and suggesting to leadership opportunities for continuous improvement of processes, standards, or IT solution offerings. Key Accountability Support OIT and Research teams by: Job Duties Carrying out special assignments and other duties as required. Position Qualifications Required Experience Five years of experience in an information technology field Two years experience applying relevant knowledge of cybersecurity in an enterprise environment Required Education Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related; four additional years of relevant experience (for a total of nine) may substitute for a bachelor’s degree Required Licensures, Certifications or other None Additional Preferred Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity or a related field. Knowledge of research, administrative and instructional computing needs in a land-grant university (including library support, university advancements, academic and administrative services). Current professional security certification addressing one or more ISO / IEC 27002 domains and management controls. Excellent conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in customer service demonstrating skills in listening/reading for understanding, professionalism, collaboration, advocacy, objectivity, diligence and flexibility. Strong organization, writing and communication skills; must clearly communicate technical issues and resolutions to customer/clients, other departments and senior management. Experience applying or auditing NIST SP800-171, or similar frameworks. Familiarity and understanding of the research project lifecycle, from pre-proposal and budgeting through funding, execution and reporting. Knowledge of the Open Science / Open Data requirements of most federal funding agencies ( NSF , NIH , etc.) Experience with shared research cyberinfrastructure, including shared High-Performance Computing ( HPC ) systems, science gateways, science DMZs and scientific data repositories. Experience with information security related issues involving identity and access management, intrusion detection, forensics, incident management, risk management and/or auditing. Demonstrated experience providing information security awareness and training. Knowledge or experience with governance, risk and compliance ( GRC ) systems.
