These positions are part of the research project “Tomography of Alpha Particles in Fusion Plasma (TAPP)” funded by Villum Foundation. Responsibilities and qualifications The goal of the TAPP projects is to exploit and further develop the novel tomographic reconstruction methods to explain new physics of the energetic alpha particles by using comprehensive data from the fusion device through velocity-space tomography. Success of the project requires close collaboration among between the mathematicians and the physicists. Postdoc 1 is employed at DTU Compute. Your task is to develop regularization technique to represent the data and the corresponding numerical algorithms. The candidate must have a solid background in inverse problems and numerical analysis. Postdoc 2 is employed at DTU Physics. You are expected to study how to extract and utilize prior information from simulated data. The candidate should have deep understanding on the physics of fusion plasmas, and preferably also have basic knowledge on commonly used numerical algorithms in inverse problems. Results from your research will advance velocity-space tomography technique and contribute to the diagnostics of the world’s first fusion reactor to produce net energy, ITER, which is currently under construction in France.
