Yes Duties and Responsibilities -Coordinate the preparation of reagents and equipment necessary for the Isolation of Human Islet. -Participate in the Isolation, culture, and distribution of Human Islets during week days, weekends, and holidays. -Coordinate and Execute quality control assessment on Islet production and distribution. -Maintain an Islet Isolation Log and complete the registration of data on the IIDP database. -Maintain and order reagents, solutions and supplies for the laboratory. -Contributing to writing grant applications, publishing manuscripts, presenting work at scientific conferences, training and supervising new personnel, and identifying and communicating opportunities for making scientific contributions. - Manage and execute complex experiments and technical procedures as directed by the Principal Investigator involving animal surgeries, tissue, or cell cultures and making direct experimental measurements from the following experimental design. - Maintain and be responsible for coordinating experimental design in large and small animals. Maintain database and records associated with animal care and Assis with writing IACUC protocols. - Independently perform experimental techniques and operate specialized equipment required to complete projects. May set up experimental design and lab techniques. - the incumbent is expected to learn and master to perform measurements using a High Respirometry for the measurements of mitochondria metabolism on cells and tissues. -Perform literature searches on computers and retrieve literature from the library. -Develop specific protocols and methodologies for new experiments. - Assis with inventory of essential lab supplies and responsibility for ensuring necessary items are available. -Ensure maintenance of equipment and more sophisticated lab instruments. Serve as liaison to vendors for purchasing new and maintaining existing equipment. -Ensure the lab environment complies with safety regulations and assumes responsibility for safety in the lab. Maintain a safe and orderly lab environment. - Implement experiments and perform lab techniques specific to the lab and by direction from the Principal Investigator - Primary authority in training new lab personnel, assigning, and checking work. May train and provide oversight of medical and graduate students and other lab users. - Perform other duties as require. Ability to analyze, integrate and interpret complex and interactive datasets -Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats -Ability to work both independently and in a small group setting, and one-on-one with collaborators in a positive and productive manner, and to work efficiently and skillfully with a variety of diverse staff and collaborators Qualifications Strong scientific background in cellular biology, immunology and/or cancer biology. Strong experience in flow cytometry technology platforms and associated data analysis Expertise in analytical method development and qualification of flow cytometry based assays, cell line development and cellular based assays. Knowledge and hands-on experience with functional assays using human and mouse multi-color FACS is preferred. Experience with cell culture such as aseptic techniques, primary cell line development and expansion and isolation techniques of immune cells is a plus. · Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, data analysis software (e.g. JMP , Graphpad, Prism, FlowJo, Diva, Cytexpert), and other applications. · Advanced statistical analysis is desirable. Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Evidence of high level of scientific expertise demonstrated through scientific publications, literature review and scientific conference participation is preferred. Experienced in establishing and maintaining internal and external collaborations. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Technically proficient in molecular biology techniques such as DNA / RNA extraction, PCR , RT-qPCR, Cellular assays, apoptosis assays, cell-cycle analysis, DNA / RNA /protein extraction, ELISA ( MSD ), electrophoresis and Western blot, immune cell population characterization by Flow cytometry, intracellular cytokine staining.
