The Department’s academic goal is to provide primary teaching strategies and problem-based learning solutions for students, residents, and fellows. Internal Medicine provides both classroom and clinical based experiences covering both inpatient and ambulatory care. Our goal is to prepare students, residents and fellows to assume roles as clinical practitioners, academic leaders and community advocates in all aspects of primary and subspecialty care. Position Overview UNTHSC fosters the trainees’ clinical skills in neuropsychology through continued clinical training that would build upon the training in internship and previous practicums. Focused didactic activities, assessment training and “check-out”, case conceptualization, individual and group supervision, and report writing improvement are areas of focus for “on the job training”. Research opportunities are abundant; thus, the postdoctoral fellow is encouraged to collaborate with other researchers and is expected to participate in research activities throughout the two-year fellowship. A fellow will be provided a face-to-face supervision on a weekly basis and is expected to evolve into a junior colleague consultation over the two-year training. Opportunities for interprofessional collaboration, consultation, and teaching are expected and will be identified throughout the fellowship to foster training needs. The trainee will learn how to develop working relationships with various medical providers/referral sources as well as how to effectively communicate test results into clinically meaningful solutions. Requirements and responsibilities: 1) Neuropsychological Assessment: The trainee will gain advanced skill in conducting a neuropsychological evaluation that answers the referring provider’s request and takes into account relevant multicultural and psychosocial issues. They will also develop extensive knowledge of brain-behavior relationships in regards to a variety of neurological, medical and psychiatric conditions that can cause cognitive impairments and possess advanced knowledge of neuroanatomy and functions related to structures therein. 2) Neuropsychological Intervention: The trainee will learn to develop appropriate recommendations to providers and patients based on clinical findings as well as provide feedback to patients and family members. 3) Supervision and Teaching The trainee will have opportunity to learn effective supervision methodologies as well as teach in other school programs on campus as well as assist in training and teaching of medical students in the classroom and clinic. Minimum qualifications: 1) Generic psychology and clinical cores should be completed consistent with an APA accredited doctoral program 2) Foundation of brain-behavior relationships should be developed to a considerable degree. 3) Dissertations must be defended by start date. 4) Internship must be completed by start date.
