The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to carry out forefront research and a commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment, and will be expected to fulfill teaching and service responsibilities at MSU. While we expect the appointment to be at the assistant professor level, depending on the experience of the candidate, an appointment at the level of associate or full professor will be considered. The MSU HEP group has a strong history of international recognition, unique strengths in both instrumentation and analysis, with experimental groups on ATLAS, IceCube, DUNE, NOvA, and T2K experiments. A successful application may include these or other HEP programs, but must include significant, planned future contributions to DUNE. MSU’s DUNE responsibilities are far detector cold electronics testing, quality control and assurance, near detector calibration system, PRISM system monitoring and MSU members have contributed to development of neutrino interaction models, oscillation analysis, and near detector simulation. MSU has a physics undergraduate major, minor program and a physics Ph.D. program. In addition, MSU has graduate certification programs in high energy physics instrumentation, computing modeling, accelerator science, and high performance computing, providing unique training and experiences for graduate students. Required Degree Doctorate -Physics, High Energy Physics, or a related Minimum Requirements Applicants for this position must possess a Ph.D in Physics, High Energy Physics, or a related field and conduct research in experimental neutrino physics or related experimental topic. Required Application Materials In application materials, candidates are expected to describe: ability to conduct scholarly research. ability to lead collaborative research projects and/or analyses a future research program including DUNE that enhances and/or complements existing effort on DUNE at MSU ability to formulate scientific questions and effectively communicate scientific concepts potential for obtaining external research funding ability to teach physics courses with evidence-based techniques ability to advise student research projects ability to work with diverse groups and to contribute to a climate of inclusion a commitment to service---for the field of high energy physics, the department, college, university, or public at large To ensure a holistic assessment of candidates, we request that applications include: (1) a 1 page cover letter that frames the application in the context of this ad, planned DUNE contributions and complementarity or enhancement to MSU’s DUNE effort. (2) a CV, including a list of publications, accepted and pending proposals for funding/resources, contributed and invited talks, teaching and mentoring roles, leadership positions, awards, contributions to the academic community, and efforts in public outreach. (3) a 2 -4 page statement highlighting past research efforts and future research interests. This statement should also list which one of your publications you would most like the committee to read and describe your contribution to it. Please also include descriptions of the applicant's past, if applicable, and planned commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in research. (4) a 1-2 page teaching statement describing the applicant’s approach to, and/or experience with, classroom teaching and mentoring in research, including experience teaching and mentoring students from broadly diverse demographic and social backgrounds. Please include anticipated challenges and plans to address them. MSU is a leader in evidence-based physics instruction. (5) a 1-2 page statement of contributions to the academic community. Faculty assume diverse responsibilities, including fostering student learning, advancing research, disseminating knowledge, and sustaining healthy, inclusive communities. The applicant should describe how they have “given back” to their previous institutions and communities, and their interests and plans for enriching the MSU community.
