Position: Lecturer in Intelligent Space Systems

Duties: The Lecturer position supports the research and teaching activities of the School of Engineering and Information Technology at UNSW Canberra. The Lecturer will be involved in advancing the School’s international profile by conducting scholarly research, contributing to the supervision of research students, and will be required to teach in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the School. The position will also contribute to the effective functioning of the School by undertaking a range of other administrative duties
Requirements: PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline; Expertise in/knowledge of: Advanced artificial intelligence approaches and technologies for miniaturised space systems, including but not limited to: machine learning algorithms and frameworks and related areas, including federated/distributed learning; embedded systems hardware and software environments for “artificial intelligence at the edge”, including neuromorphic systems; Applications of AI to satellite remote sensing/image analysis/digital signal processing; Satellite and satellite constellation orbits, dynamics and control

About the Role: Role: Lecturer in Intelligent Space Systems Salary: Level B - $ 111,563 - $ 131,517 plus 17% Superannuation Term: Full Time, 2 year fixed term contract The Lecturer position supports the research and teaching activities of the School of Engineering and Information Technology at UNSW Canberra. The Lecturer will be involved in advancing the School’s international profile by conducting scholarly research, contributing to the supervision of research students, and will be required to teach in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the School. The position will also contribute to the effective functioning of the School by undertaking a range of other administrative duties. The role of Lecturer reports to the Chair for Intelligent Space Systems (Director, UNSW Canberra Space) and has no direct reports other than Level A postdoctoral researchers as relevant from time to time. Our ideal candidate: To be successful in this role you will: PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline. Expertise in / knowledge of: Advanced artificial intelligence approaches and technologies for miniaturised space systems, including but not limited to: machine learning algorithms and frameworks and related areas, including federated / distributed learning; embedded systems hardware and software environments for “artificial intelligence at the edge”, including neuromorphic systems. Applications of AI to satellite remote sensing/image analysis/digital signal processing. Satellite and satellite constellation orbits, dynamics and control. An emerging research publication, competitive grant research support and research-student supervision track record. A demonstrated ability to undertake quality teaching and apply new and innovative teaching methods for both introductory and specialist courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting effectively team members, collaborators and colleagues in a teaching and research-intensive environment. Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
