Text: Research Associate/Postdoc Position in Regulatory Toxicology Research 100% The Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology (SCAHT) at the University of Basel is offering a position to investigate the status of integration and use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in the existing European regulatory risk assessment frameworks for chemicals. The project is part of the Horizon Europe (2021-2027) Partnership for Risk Assessment of Chemicals (PARC) and is part of a task which aims to drive innovation in regulatory risk assessment practice and achieve implementation of Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA). The position is initially available for one year, with the possibility of extension for a further two years depending on project status and available funding. Your position The overall aim of the project is to facilitate the regulatory acceptance and practical use of NAMs in chemical risk assessment, with a focus on the needs & challenges risk assessors encounter at desk level in their daily practice. Based on the current status of integration and use of NAMs in the different EU regulatory risk assessment frameworks, the project will identify gaps, barriers, opportunities, and drivers towards a successful implementation of NAMs in the regulatory context. The successful candidate will consolidate existing knowledge in the field based on literature review and stakeholder engagement activities. She/he will conduct surveys and expert interviews with risk assessors at EU and Member State level to gain insight in the status of development, integration and use of NAMs in EU sectorial frameworks. She/he will also collect information on the use of computer-based (i.e. artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies) tools for use in chemical risk assessment. She/he will engage with different partners and stakeholders within and outside PARC for planning, coordination, and consolidation purposes. Your profile We are looking for a research associate/postdoc with experience in the EU chemical regulatory landscape and who is familiar with in vitro assays and/or in silico methods. The successful candidate will be integrated in a dynamic, multidisciplinary international research environment and is expected to contribute to the PARC activities at the SCAHT as well as to writing technical reports and manuscripts.
