Text: Skip to main content careers Endowed Professor of Statistics, Tenured Charlottesville, VA Apply The Department of Statistics at the University of Virginia (UVA), College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, invites applicants for the newly established Elcan Jefferson Scholars Foundation Distinguished Professorship (the position is tenured; the distinguished professorship is a five year renewable term). Candidates’ records are expected to be commensurate with this honor. All research areas in Statistics are considered. The Department is experiencing increased student demand in statistics research, particularly as motivated by its faculty’s diverse interdisciplinary collaborations, so we welcome those whose research and teaching span statistical methodology and computing across numerous disciplines. In addition, the University hosts several Grand Challenges; see research.virginia.edu/Grand-challenges. The Department has a concurrent search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, and both appointments begin in Fall 2022. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field, and an outstanding record of research, teaching, funding and creating and leading initiatives. The ideal candidate should demonstrate success in these areas: create and lead research initiatives, engage in opportunities for external funding to support research endeavors, teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, advise Ph.D. students, and provide service to the department, university, professional organizations, and the Jefferson Scholars Foundation by serving on Foundation selection committees, attending Foundation events, and helping the Foundation recruit Scholars and Fellows. We seek candidates dedicated to our mission and passionate about teaching and research in a world-class institution. The Department of Statistics at UVA was established in 1989 and currently has 16 research and teaching faculty. Since 2014, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences has made significant investments in the department, leading to a three-fold growth in faculty, a five-fold increase in undergraduate majors, and several new statistics courses, degree programs, and initiatives. Faculty and students work closely with biostatisticians in the adjacent School of Medicine, as well as with UVA’s Quantitative Collaborative (Social Sciences), School of Data Science, and other departments and schools; interests range from theoretical to applied statistics (including statistics in the physical, medical, and social sciences), with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations. All faculty supervise a growing number of students at all levels; we offer Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Ph.D. degrees in Statistics.
