Apply online With this new position we offer you the possibility to shape and develop the exciting and important field of structures made from wood and other bio-based materials at the Department of Civil Engineering, with the aim of assessing, updating and designing such structures, balancing the use of resources and the demand for efficiency, safety, robustness and resilience in a sustainable way. The setting will be the Section for Structures and Safety which is one of six sections at the Department for Civil Engineering. In the Section for Structures and Safety your colleagues are professionals and experts in structural design covering steel, concrete and glass structures, loads on structures as well as advanced structural analysis and assessment. The research in the section is supported by an excellent research infrastructure including access to high performance computing and one of the largest and modern experimental facilities in Europe for mechanical testing of structures and materials. Responsibilities and qualifications Your responsibility will be to shape and develop the area of structural engineering using wood and other bio-based materials at the Section for Structures and Safety. You will contribute to research and development of at least one of the following areas: Advanced, numerical modelling of the mechanical behaviour of wood and bio-based materials and structural elements made hereof taking hygrothermal behaviour, fire safety and deterioration into account . Design of structures made from wood and other bio-based materials with focus on safety, robustness and sustainability, taking multiple loading scenarios into account. New and innovative jointing methods for structural elements made from wood and other bio-based materials. Other primary tasks involves engagement in the development of the Section’s teaching curriculum, a wide variety of educational responsibilities, fundraising, dissemination of research results and administrative duties. The educational responsibilities will, to the extent possible, be related to the research focus area, however it is expected that the candidate covers and contributes to a wide spectrum of topics in structural engineering on both bachelor and master level. The position provides an opportunity for short teaching duties at Sisimiut Campus, Greenland. You must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) a s well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training. It is required that you have strong qualifications in solid and structural mechanics, including numerical, structural analysis and the mechanics of wood and other bio-based materials. Furthermore you have demonstrated competences in at least one of the three core areas of the position: analysis, design and joint design in wood and bio-based structures. You are enthusiastic about teaching and interaction with students, and you have successful experience in teaching and student supervision in one or more of the fields covered by the Section. Furthermore you are able to demonstrate a strong research profile, fundraising experience, and you have good communication skills in English and preferably also in Danish, both written and spoken. You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.
