Text: Deadline: 31 January 2022 APPLY 51/2021 APPLY 51/2021 Researcher in applied Bayesian econometrics Integrated Biosphere Futures (IBF) research group The IBF Research Group , part of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) Program , is offering an opportunity for an applied econometrician who will work on development and implementation of land-use, commodity markets and food security related statistical modelling with Bayesian tools. background The IBF Research Group adopts an integrated approach to sustainable land use and ecosystems modeling taking into account i) interactions between different economic sectors, including agriculture, forestry, bioenergy, and fisheries, ii) synergies and trade-offs between multiple societal objectives, including, but not limited to, GHG emissions and climate change mitigation, climate change impacts and adaptation, food security, sustainable nutrient and water management, and biodiversity, iii) across different spatial and temporal scales, going from pixel through the country level up to the global scale, and from annual to a hundred year time horizon. The group is strongly connected to the international academic community, placing emphasis on transdisciplinary synergies and applied approaches. The work accomplished has long been recognized through regular publications in high-ranking scientific journals, and the team includes several Top 1% highly cited researchers. In addition, IBF is recognized as a reliable partner in support of national policy making and international multilateral processes. the Position: Land-use and other agricultural projections from the IBF group used for policy analysis require integration across spatial and temporal scales. At the spatial scales, the spatially explicit modeling of land-use change within the DownScale model relies on Bayesian econometric methods and downscaling of the full posterior distribution. The successful candidate would contribute to the development of the DownScale model through harmonizing existing codes and implementing downscaling and estimation methods. At the temporal scale, the dynamics of land-use change models across various need to be validated using advanced time-series models. This includes but is not limited to dynamics of land-use, prices, and spillovers from agricultural sectors and climate shocks to the economy as a whole. The empirical analysis will be used for standalone analysis, in conjunction with econometric studies, as well as with other economic models such as GLOBIOM. We offer an initial fixed-term, two year, full-time (40 hours per week) employment contract with the possibility of extension thereafter. Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, near Vienna in Austria (up to 100 days per year home office working possible). The corresponding profile for this opportunity is R1 according to the IIASA profiles for research careers . we offer A minimum gross annual salary of EUR 33,924.00 (full-time equivalent), which is exempt from income tax in Austria.
