Position: Lead Actuary

Duties: Lead the creation of our internal actuarial function, defining the processes, analyses, and principles for our pricing and reserving; Develop analytics and insights to identify opportunities and trends that drive the portfolio and performance; Work with our tech and data teams to help develop enhanced reporting models and metrics to better monitor portfolio trends and experience drivers; Lead periodic analyses and performance reviews for internal and external stakeholders (including for rate-making/indications, product development and reserving); Work with UW and Marketing to identify innovative approaches to enhance Huckleberry’s pricing/underwriting, portfolio mix, product offering, and value proposition; Help develop and build core processes to monitor market trends, competitors, and performance to help shape pricing and product strategy and improve our positioning
Requirements: FCAS designation desired (ACAS required) 5+ years of proven, technical experience in P&C Actuarial, ideally encompassing: Core actuarial concepts, theories, and methods across multiple lines of business (with significant exposure to Small Commercial) Prior exposure to, and a good understanding of, the technical aspects of the broader insurance business (i.e., sales/distribution, underwriting, product/portfolio management, forms/filings, and ECM/reinsurance); and how they relate back to portfolio dynamics and experience

As a critical member of the insurance team, the Lead Actuary will be responsible for building our capabilities around pricing, performance drivers, and portfolio dynamics. You will work closely with the Chief Insurance Officer, Underwriting VP/Lead and our carrier partners to innovate our product offering and expand our appetite. In this role, you will cover not only the broad scope of traditional actuarial activities, but push further into insights and analytics that drive unique offerings and profitable growth. Lead periodic analyses and performance reviews for internal and external stakeholders (including for rate-making/indications, product development and reserving). Work with UW and Marketing to identify innovative approaches to enhance Huckleberry’s pricing/underwriting, portfolio mix, product offering, and value proposition. Help develop and build core processes to monitor market trends, competitors, and performance to help shape pricing and product strategy and improve our positioning. Support topical evaluations of different options/approaches to help drive key decisions. Support education of staff to enhance understanding of actuarial and pricing topics that impact the business.
