Position: Statistics, Actuarial & Data Sciences - Department Chairperson (Tenure-Track, Assoc/Professor)

Duties: The Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences (STAD) at Central Michigan University invites applications for the department Chair position at the rank of Associate or full Professor and may include tenure, starting August 2022. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an active research program, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, provide a vision for strengthening the department, and oversee the launch of the data science program. The appointment for this chair position includes two courses per academic year and additional compensation of half-time summer administrative appointment

Candidates should have a strong record of publishing and external funding as well as strong evidence of effective leadership in an academic setting. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an active research program, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, provide a vision for strengthening the department, and oversee the launch of the data science program. Required Qualifications Successful candidates will work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment within the Department, across the campus, and with external partners. The required qualifications include: 1. A PhD in statistics, actuarial science, data science or related field. 2. A strong record in research, external funding, teaching, and professional services. 3. Evidence of accomplishments that warrant appointment at a senior rank, which may include experiences in academia and/or industry. 4. Evidence of successful administrative/leadership experiences in academia and/or industry. 5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 6. About the Department The Central Michigan University’s Department of Statistics, Actuarial and Data Sciences (STAD) was officially launched in fall 2019. It consists of three areas with highest growth rates among STEM disciplines. The department offers PhD in Statistics and Analytics, MS in Applied Statistics and Analytics, graduate certificate programs in Data Mining and in Actuarial Science, BS in Actuarial Science, BS in Statistics, and a BS in Data Science to be launched in fall 2022. The STAD department has eight tenured faculty with active research in distributions, modeling, Bayesian analysis, actuarial and risk analysis, data analytics and statistics education. The department currently has about 40 students in the graduate programs and 80 undergraduates. The Department manages a Statistical Consulting Center and provides a dynamic environment for teaching, research and collaborations across disciplines.
