Position: (Junior) Bioinformatician

Duties: You will support scientists who work at the frontline of biological research by analyzing experimental data; you will choose the right tools and develop new ones if needed. You will be setting up, maintaining, and improving existing data analysis workflows. Part of your daily work will also consist of supporting manufacturing in time-critical analyses and applications. Ideally, you will evaluate technical concepts for automating recurring tasks. For a great user experience, you will provide users with an easy to understand UI and/or system documentation

In this position, you will join an international team of IT and bioinformatics experts who aim to develop bioinformatics, data analysis, and manufacturing applications in the exciting field of molecular biology. Based on requirements gathered from our partners in R&D, business and operations, you will design, implement, and test new functionality as well as help maintaining and supporting our existing applications. In your daily work, you will closely collaborate with teammates and customers on site and from international locations; this will include colleagues from software engineering, R&D, and other functions across the global organization. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in bioinformatics, computer science, IT, or a related field. Fluency in English Hands-on experience with scripting and analysis languages (like Python, Julia, R, Javascript) or other, higher languages (like Java) Knowledge of tools and algorithms for sequence similarity searches (like BLAST, aligners, etc.) Affinity to experimenting with tools for data analyses An analytical mindset, no fear of statistics Strong communication and problem-solving skills, willing to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment A passion for high performance, high quality code as well as for great user experience Nice to Have Some knowledge in the area of synthetic/molecular biology or the willingness to acquire this knowledge, i.e., you have no fear of getting acquainted with genomes, enzymes, next-generation sequencing, biological databases Experience with software development tools (e.g. CI tools, Jenkins, SonarQube, git,…) Knowledge in setting up workflows (e.g., experience with make, Snakemake) Monthly salary from 1400 to 1900 EUR before taxes and motivational compensation package.
