Duties: You will conduct research in project A4, which deals with statistics on non-Euclidean spaces with applications in biometrics. Additionally, you will take part in our study program, which includes special lectures and seminars, our annual RTG workshop, regular meetings with other PhD students as well as with your thesis advisory committee, and a course on good scientific practice
Requirements: hold an excellent or very good Master’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or physics; have strong interest in mathematical and multivariate statistics and/or geometry and a reliable background in one of these areas; are proficient in written and spoken English; have gained some relevant experience in programming (e.g., Python, R, C++)

Regular working hours will be 29,85 hours per week with a limited contract of three years. This position should be filled by April 1, 2022. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L). About us: At the RTG 2088, we develop new mathematical concepts for the efficient reconstruction and classification of relevant structural information in data sets. In doing so, we benefit from an interplay between approaches in statistics, optimization and inverse problems. We offer an interdisciplinary qualification program that equips our graduate students with a broad set of skills for analyzing data - also beyond the scientific scope of our RTG.
