IREACH comprises a team of about 70 faculty and staff engaged in conducting community-engaged multidisciplinary research, training and education, and outreach with underserved populations. Our priority populations are American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, Hispanic/LatinX, and rural peoples. Our research includes both observational and randomized controlled trials. At IREACH we are deeply committed to community capacity building, equitable research partnerships, and promoting racial justice in academia and public health research. At IREACH we conduct public health research aligned with this mission, collaborating with other faculty at the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and other Colleges across the University. As the state’s land-grant university, the College of Medicine features a community-based curriculum with the stated mission of “equipping students to become health care leaders of the future, ready to serve in communities where they are needed most.” This position will be located within the IREACH Methods Core, a collegial group of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and a demographer. Faculty members within the Methods Core pursue their own independent research funding as well as provide methodologic support on a wide variety of topics including quantitative analysis, Bayesian statistics, and causal inference, community engaged research, and mixed/qualitative methods. Community-engaged research frequently requires careful methodological support to achieve scientifically rigorous study designs that also meet the needs and logistical realities of community partners. These skills are urgently needed but are not typically emphasized in epidemiology doctoral programs; this position seeks applicants who wish to focus on scientific problems that improve methodologies that can be used in underserved or understudied populations. Specific areas of interest for this role include Neurology, Neuroepidemiology, and Imaging/Biometrics, in the context of health disparities research, with opportunity for directed and independent data analysis and manuscript preparation.. Assignment of postdoctoral fellow or junior faculty status will depend on interest and be commensurate with candidate knowledge and experience. The fellow or junior faculty member will be supervised by an epidemiologist who also serves as an Independently funded Assistant Professor at Washington State University. Therefore, this position can be located in Seattle or Spokane in Washington. The fellow or junior faculty member will be expected to support a research program in Neurology, Neuroepidemiology, Imaging/Biometrics; some experience in these or related fields is desired. The fellow or faculty member will also participate in efforts to acquire additional funding through competitive grant applications, and ultimately toto also pursue application of mentored and, later, independent grant funding for their own research program—e.g. K99-R00 or K01 career development award, followed later by R funding. IREACH provides extensive support for development of study design, crafting a career development plan, and writing the funding application; the fellow or junior faculty member will also be mentored by their supervisor in these efforts. Although business travel is currently on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this position may require occasional travel to research locations around the United States. This is a temporarily funded, one (1) year position, with annual renewals subject to satisfactory performance, mutual consent, and available funding..
