ISGlobal has an ambitious vision of being a world class centre in research, translation and education in Global Public Health working towards a world in which all people can enjoy health and is committed to improve global health and promote health equity. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non- communicable diseases with special attention to environmental health determinants. Among our main ambitions in communicable diseases, we are making progress in the strategies to eliminate malaria and other NTDs such as yaws, to improve the diagnosis and treatment of Chagas diseases, to halter the spread of antibiotic resistance and to develop better and new approaches to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Africa. It also includes clinical and implementation research on HIV/AIDS and TB related to the epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. Regarding non-communicable diseases our main ambitions include the understanding of the exposome, the characterization of the more harmful environmental exposure during childhood including chemicals and radiation and those that affect the neurodevelopment, conducting and improving health impact assessments to support built urban environment policies and providing knowledge that could be translated in more effective preventive strategies against cancer and respiratory diseases. Our contribution to improve the environment also includes research to support radio protection policies for both ionizing and non-ionizong sources and cutting-edge research on the role of climate and climate change in both communicable and non-communicable diseases. In all these areas ISGlobal approach includes generating new cutting-edge and operational research as well as developing large translational efforts to maximize its impact.
