Position: Scientists specializing in superconducting high-frequency and quantum circuits

Duties: The Quantum Electronics Department focuses on developing and characterizing superconducting quantum circuits. for these tasks, a clean room center with its complex thin-film technology and the corresponding setups for cryogenic low- and high-frequency measurements is at our disposal; Scientific work within the scope of a research project funded by the BMBF aiming at realizing robust quantum control electronics for superconducting qubits in the GHz frequency range with quantum accuracy; First position: Developing and optimizing integrated high-frequency circuits by means of numerical simulation programs (e.g., CST Microwave Studio, Sonnet). Manufacturing the circuits at PTB’s clean room center and then characterizing them at high frequencies; Second position: Developing and manufacturing superconducting Josephson circuits using the niobium technology at PTB’s clean room center. Combining the superconducting chips with high-frequency circuits, and characterizing them at low temperatures; Presenting and publishing the scientific results
Requirements: You have completed your university studies (German Diplom or Master’s) in physics, electrical engineering or a comparable subject and have obtained at least the grade good; If you apply as a post-doc, we expect you to have obtained a doctorate with the grade very good; First position: You have a good knowledge of and practical experience in high-frequency technologies and simulation; Second position: You have a very good knowledge of and practical experience in thin-layer technologies and micro-/nanostructuring; Ideally, you are familiar with the field described for the other position as well as with the field of low-temperature physics; You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills; You are able to perform scientific work autonomously; You have a very good command of spoken and written English; Fitness for working in a clean room center is required

November 2021 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. With a starting date as soon as possible, Department 2.4, Quantum Electronics, is looking for two candidates to fill the following positions at our Braunschweig site for a duration of three years: Scientists specializing in superconducting high-frequency and quantum circuits up to Remuneration Group 14 TVöD Bund ○ full-time (39 hours/week) ○ fixed-term contract You may have the opportunity to obtain a doctoral degree (PhD) within the scope of your assignment. For doctoral candidates, the remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration Group 13 TVöD Bund .
