Duties: Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Occupational Health Physician at University College London (UCL) Workplace Health, UCL’s occupational health and wellbeing service. UCL Workplace Health is an established SEQOHS accredited service working with UCL staff and professionally regulated students. The team provides professional evidence-based, effective occupational health and wellbeing advice and services in order to promote health at work/study and enhance the cultural and physical environment in which teaching and research activity can operate effectively
Requirements: You will be expected to provide consultant support for a range of occupational health services to a higher education establishment. This includes providing advice on: complex management referrals and ill health retirement cases, fitness to study cases, concerns raised during health surveillance and overseeing standing orders for the travel medicine clinic. There will be senior consultant support for three days per month, acting as a supervisor and mentor as you imbed into UCL. You are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of your expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview. You must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013)

UCL is a dynamic, global university based in one of the most exciting capital cities in the world. We currently provide services to a population of approximately 12,000 staff, 5000 PhDs and 6000 professionally regulated students including the UCL School of Pharmacy, UCL Institute of Education and UCL Medical School. We have a contracted physiotherapist service available for staff and work closely with our EAP. As a department we lead on the staff wellbeing strategy for UCL. Key Requirements You will be expected to provide consultant support for a range of occupational health services to a higher education establishment. This includes providing advice on: complex management referrals and ill health retirement cases, fitness to study cases, concerns raised during health surveillance and overseeing standing orders for the travel medicine clinic. There will be senior consultant support for three days per month, acting as a supervisor and mentor as you imbed into UCL. We are a nurse led service, and the role will report to the Director of Workplace Health and will sit on the management team with the Head of Occupational Health, Head of Workplace Wellbeing and Administration Manager. You are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of your expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview. You must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMCs Good Medical Practice (2013). You must be undertaking annual appraisal and revalidation including continuous professional development activities, which will support you in your role. Previous experience working with a higher education institute and with professionally regulated students would be advantageous. Travel medicine experience or qualifications would also be beneficial. You must also have excellent IT skills as note taking and report writing are undertaken electronically. Further Details The post is 0.6FTE three days per week, with the expectation that the work would be undertaken on site. We are based in a new purpose built space on Grays Inn Road, a short walk from Russell Square, Chancery Lane and are close to Kings Cross. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
