Duties: The responsibilities of the post will include: Carrying out vigorous, high-level research on the numerical analysis and scientific computing of coupled solvers at extreme scales. Topics include extreme scale FEM/BEM coupling, higher-order methods, and stability analysis of complex coupled simulations, interfacing with other team members at UCL, Cambridge and STFC. Full participation in seminars and colloquia in the subject, submitting publications regularly in refereed journals and participating in national and international conferences, and contributing to high-quality open-source code development
Requirements: Candidates should either have a PhD or equivalent qualification in Mathematics or a related subject, should be finalising their PhD or waiting for their viva date. The successful candidate is expected to have a proven track record in research and publishing, have a strong software development expertise in a modern scientific computing language. Preferred languages are Python and C++, but transferrable skills from other relevant languages are taken into account. They should also have knowledge of and commitment to software development best practise including issue tracking, testing, documentation, version control and continuous integration. As well as have a strong desire to work at the heart of, and fully participate in, an active research group in the field, have excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate participation in a research group, and excellent communication skills, both written and oral
   
Text: Research Fellow , - Ref:1879079 Click here to go back to search results Apply Now UCL Department / Division Department of Mathematics Location of position London Grade 7 Hours Full Time Salary (inclusive of London allowance) £36,770 - £40,928 per annum Duties and Responsibilities The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society. Applications are invited for a full-time Research Fellow position to work with Professor Timo Betcke and Professor Erik Burman on the project Integrated Simulation at the Exascale: coupling, synthesis and performance. The responsibilities of the post will include: Carrying out vigorous, high-level research on the numerical analysis and scientific computing of coupled solvers at extreme scales. Topics include extreme scale FEM/BEM coupling, higher-order methods, and stability analysis of complex coupled simulations, interfacing with other team members at UCL, Cambridge and STFC. Full participation in seminars and colloquia in the subject, submitting publications regularly in refereed journals and participating in national and international conferences, and contributing to high-quality open-source code development. This post is available from 7th February 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is for 2 years in the first instance, with the expectation of transitioning to an open-ended appointment as a staff scientist within UCL ARC at the end of this period, subject to satisfactory performance evaluation. If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 26 (salary £33,958 per annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
