Position: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics

Duties: We are looking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics to join the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University. We are seeking an excellent researcher and dedicated teacher who will strengthen or complement our existing expertise. Research in pure mathematics within the School is focused on algebra and analysis (including geometric group theory, representation theory, complex analysis and functional analysis). You will be involved in the undergraduate teaching on the BSc and MMath programs offered by the School and will be expected to deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods
Requirements: You will have a PhD in Mathematics and an established or developing research record evidenced by high-quality publications in leading international journals. You should have excellent communication skills and demonstrable teaching potential. A track record of high quality research in an area of pure mathematics which strengthens or complements existing research in pure mathematics in the School. Experience of presenting work to the national/international research community at conferences, workshops and seminars

Salary: Lecturer Grade F - £36,382 to £40,927 per annum Lecturer Grade G - £42,149 to £44,706 per annum, with progression to £50,296 Senior Lecturer Grade H - £51,799 to £54,943 per annum, with progression to £60,022 Closing Date: 9 November 2021 The role We are looking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics to join the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University. We are seeking an excellent researcher and dedicated teacher who will strengthen or complement our existing expertise. Research in pure mathematics within the School is focused on algebra and analysis (including geometric group theory, representation theory, complex analysis and functional analysis). You will be able to connect to aspects of our existing research portfolio while adding a distinctive new perspective. You will have a PhD in Mathematics and an established or developing research record evidenced by high-quality publications in leading international journals. Key Accountabilities Carry out internationally recognised research in pure mathematics leading to publications in highly regarded journals. Develop grant-funded research projects. Build collaborative links with other members of the School and wider institution. Undertake teaching in our undergraduate BSc and MMath programs. Contribute to the development of the curriculum and innovative assessment methods. Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers Contribute to the life and work of the School in general and to the pure mathematics section in particular. Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School and the School Executive Board. The Person Knowledge, Skills and Experience A track record of high quality research in an area of pure mathematics which strengthens or complements existing research in pure mathematics in the School. Experience of presenting work to the national/international research community at conferences, workshops and seminars. Awareness of the research presently ongoing within the pure mathematics section and ability to see own research in this wider context. Demonstrable ability to effectively teach at University level and the willingness to supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Effective time management, prioritisation and organisational skills to balance the potentially conflicting demands of teaching, research and administration; the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to promote research links with other Schools or disciplines (Desirable) Attributes and Behaviour Excellent collaborative, interpersonal and team-working skills.
