Duties: The Research and Teaching Support Technician will work in the structural laboratory and flexible project spaces to provide practical technical support to academics, researchers and industrial partners on research projects and for teaching activities, and provide practical advice in the design of lab equipment, devices and test specimens with reference to structural experimentation
Requirements: The successful candidate will have an HNC or HND qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and experience of providing practical technical support in a laboratory either in a higher education or an industrial environment working on research, experimentation and mechanical testing of components and systems. Experience of working in an engineering workshop using a range of machinery and hand tools, and knowledge of a range of different materials, their properties and uses (for example: metals, timber, concrete, masonry and fibre reinforced polymers), are also essential. Ability to maintain and repair a wide range of equipment and machinery used in a structural laboratory, and experience and/or knowledge of strain gauge installation for different materials would be an advantage
