Position: Legal Counselor

Duties: Provide accurate and timely legal counsel to the IIASA Executive Committee (IEC); Conduct extensive legal research and analysis, review legal documents and prepare briefs on a wide range of issues related to the laws applicable to an international research institution under Austrian law; Draft legal documents required for the conduct of institutional and/or operational activities and in relation to IIASA interaction with the host country, Austria; Analyze and advise on cases within the realms of the Austrian legal system, including IIASA pleadings and submissions in cases before the courts; Evaluate and support further development of the legal framework of the institute; Proactively monitor legal affairs and compliance within the organization; Research and evaluate legal risk factors regarding business decisions and operations; Safeguard legal files and ensure proper documentation; Organize internal training sessions on selected legal topics
Requirements: Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law with excellent knowledge of Austrian labor and social insurance law and sound knowledge of the laws applicable to a scientific institution, such as data protection, intellectual property and contract law. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a job-related field, preferably at a law firm or a legal department of a university or a similar institution, with demonstrated experience in legal analysis, research and writing
   
Text: Deadline: 3 October 2021 (midnight CEST) APPLY 28/2021 APPLY 28/2021 Legal Counselor background As a further step in advancing the strategic transformation of IIASA, the legal counselor will oversee the legal aspects of the institute to ensure that IIASA follows legal requirements, and provide legal advice to management about all relevant issues. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a job-related field, preferably at a law firm or a legal department of a university or a similar institution, with demonstrated experience in legal analysis, research and writing. Languages: Excellent command of German and English. Appointment terms The selected candidate should be available to take up the position in December of 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter. We offer an initial fixed-term, full-time (40 hours per week) employment contract for one year, with the possibility of extension thereafter. Eligible applicants wishing to work part-time hours may also be considered. Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, near Vienna in Austria. This position is classified as a ''Professional" level post. WE OFFER A minimum gross full-time (40 hours per week) annual salary of EUR 72,000.00 which is exempt from income tax in Austria. The advertised salary is: Negotiable, based on the qualifications, skills and experience of the selected individual Subject to deductions for health insurance and/or social security Not directly comparable with other employers in Austria, due to the unique legal status and privileges granted to IIASA Subject to the principle of income aggregation (Progressionsvorbehalt in German).
