The College welcomes applications from all academic disciplines, and it seeks to elect a diverse community of Research Fellows. Successful candidates are normally post-doctoral researchers who have been awarded their PhD within the last two years or are graduate students in the latter stages of their research leading to a PhD. Candidates holding a fellowship or other post-doctoral stipend awarded by a Research Council or other similar body may apply

Research Fellowship competitionSt John’s College invites applications for up to four Research Fellowships, tenable for up to four years from 1 October 2022. EligibilityApplications will be accepted from a graduate of any university within or outside the United Kingdom. The College welcomes applications from all academic disciplines, and it seeks to elect a diverse community of Research Fellows. Successful candidates are normally post-doctoral researchers who have been awarded their PhD within the last two years or are graduate students in the latter stages of their research leading to a PhD. Candidates holding a fellowship or other post-doctoral stipend awarded by a Research Council or other similar body may apply. In recent years, the College has typically received between 600 and 800 eligible applications. Information about recently elected Research Fellows can be found hereThose holding a Fellowship at a Cambridge College (other than a Fellowship without stipend) may not apply. Short-listed candidates who accept a stipendiary Fellowship from another Cambridge College will be deemed to have withdrawn from St John’s College’s Research Fellowship competition.Terms of the awardThe stipend for a Research Fellowship is £28,331 - £30,942 p.a. for up to four years. Fellows are permitted to receive additional pay for up to six hours' College or University teaching a week. Research Fellows wishing to live in College are provided with residential accommodation with charges for services and supplies. Fellows who do not live in College are provided with office accommodation. Those with a partner/family will be eligible for a housing allowance. Research Fellowships are held on condition of residence within the University of Cambridge. Research Fellows are entitled to free lunches and dinners in College.Research Fellows may apply for grants for academic materials, travel expenses, conferences and book allowances and, as appropriate, the cost of extended periods of research outside Cambridge. The College will be prepared either to allow deferral of a Fellowship under Title A for up to one year, where the Fellow-elect is working away during that period, Fellow-elect status remaining during that period; or to allow the Fellow under Title A to intermit for a period of up to one year, with that intermission counting as part of their tenure under Title A.ApplicationsAll applications must be submitted online at https://sjcamrf.flexigrant.com by 14.00 BST on 21 September 2021.
