Position: Postdoc in Enzyme Degradation of Alginate

Duties: The new postdoc will focus on discovery and characterization of alginate degrading enzymes from gut bacteria in collaboration with our partners and young scientists in our research groups. The methods include genome mining, recombinant production of candidate enzymes, identification of reaction mechanisms and specificity including use of mutational analysis, crystallization and structure characterization as well as assessment of efficacy in degradation of alginate-whey protein complexes
Requirements: As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Apply online A postdoctoral position is available from August 1 st in connection with the project “WPAC, Structure and Design of Whey Protein Alginate Complexes” granted by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The research is carried out at DTU Bioengineering in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim; Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen; Center for Molecular Protein Science, Lund University and Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen. This postdoctoral project will focus on discovery, structure, substrate specificity, mode of action and synergy of alginate degrading enzymes from gut bacteria including the ability to degrade alginate-whey protein.complexes. This position is an excellent opportunity for acquiring experience within fundamental protein chemistry and enzymology relevant for a range of applications in biotechnology and food science.
