The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI M) is a multidisciplinary center for climate and Earth system research located in Hamburg, Germany. It is one of the premier climate science research institutes in the world. Located in the heart of one of Europe s most livable and vibrant cities it provides a highly international and interdisciplinary environment for conducting scientific research as well as access to state of the art scientific facilities. The MPI M is now opening two (3+1 year) positions for Two Postdoctoral Scientists (f/m/ W 094 to support the development and scientific exploitation of a new generation of Storm Resolving (km scale) Earth System Models (SR ESMs). The positions are funded with partial support from t he H2020 projects NextGEMS Next Generation Earth Modelling Systems (GA 101003470; 2021 2025), and CONSTRAIN (GA 820829) and will allow the successful applicant to work on the most scientifically and technically ambitious simulations systems imaginable. The objective of the positions is to evaluate and improve the repr esentation of the coupled climate system using kilometer scale coupled models. These positions emphasize the representation of precipitating convective systems and their interaction with the underlying ocean.
