Duties: Within the scope of the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence, you will investigate new methods for disseminating highly stable optical frequencies via optical fiber and via free-space transfer for the purpose of frequency comparisons between optical clocks. Your tasks in Working Group 4.34 will include: Optical free-space transfer with relative uncertainties < 10 -18 by means of continuous or mode-locked lasers; Glass-fiber-based optical frequency dissemination with relative uncertainties < 10 ‑19 for international comparisons of optical clocks and applications in relativistic geodesy; Within the scope of your assignment, you will have to deal with setting up and characterizing optical measuring systems and electronic circuits on a daily basis. In this way, you will be determining uncertainty budgets for the entire measuring system and continuously be improving the system
Requirements: You have completed your university studies in physics, electrical engineering or a comparable subject with the grade “very good” and have obtained a doctorate; You have experimental experience in the field of laser optics; Knowledge of control or communications engineering would be an advantage; Ideally, you are familiar with programming FPGAs; You have practical knowledge of metrology, data acquisition and data evaluation; You have a very good command of both spoken and written German and English; You are able to carry out specific scientific work autonomously; you also have good experimental and organizational skills; You are a team player with excellent communication skills; You are highly committed and have a high sense of responsibility; You are willing to travel within Germany and abroad within the scope of your assignment; You are ready and physically able to plan and perform field measurements and experiments outside the institute autonomously

It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy, and science.
