Position: Program Officer - Dealing with the Past

Duties: Shape and develop swisspeace's work on Dealing with the Past in Sub-Saharan Africa; Develop partnerships, projects, and acquire mandates in support of Dealing with the Past processes, particularly in Sudan and Zimbabwe; Implement projects including capacity building measures and trainings on topics related to Dealing with the Past for partners from civil society, government, and multilateral institutions; Conduct administrative and logistical tasks related to the implementation of projects
Requirements: Aspiration to shape and grow swisspeace's work on Dealing with the Past in Sub-Saharan Africa; Excellent knowledge of Dealing with the Past related topics; Experience in project cycle management, financial administration and reporting of larger projects; Proven competence in advising and supporting stakeholders related to Dealing with the Past processes. Field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is a strong asset; Strong intercultural, interpersonal, and communication skills; Track-record of developing, acquiring, and implementing Dealing with the Past projects; Availability for international travel, including to conflict-affected countries; Masters'degree in a relevant discipline; Excellent English language skills, particularly in writing. Arabic is a strong asset, French and other languages welcome
   
Text: Program Officer - Dealing with the Past (80 - 100 %) Starting date: 1 July 2021 (or by agreement) swisspeace is a practice and research institute dedicated to advancing effective peacebuilding. It supports and advises local, national, and international actors relevant for peacebuilding, researches topics particularly relevant for peacebuilding practice, provides spaces for exchange and dialogue, and shapes peace policy in Switzerland and globally. swisspeace is an associated institute of the University of Basel. The swisspeace Dealing with the Past team supports governmental and non-governmental actors working to overcome the legacy of massive human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law having occurred in contexts of colonialism, armed conflict and authoritarian regimes, and to prevent their reoccurrence. Particular thematic focus lies on archives and DwP and disappeared persons. To strengthen our support offer in Sub-Saharan Africa with a particular focus on Sudan and Zimbabwe, we are looking for an ambitious and highly motivated person.
