Duties: You will work closely with UCL department teams to support our researchers to develop high quality contractual arrangements, protecting UCL’s interests as a charitable institution. You will be responsible for drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of research collaboration agreements, MTA’s, studentships, amendments and associated documents. We work with a broad base of funders and collaborators from industry, Research Councils, government departments, charities, NGOs, international agencies and other higher education institutions. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to our policies and standards, including areas such as IP, data protection and medical regulation
Requirements: You will need: A degree level qualification in either law or business administration, or equivalent experience in commercial contract preparation; Demonstrable experience of contract drafting and negotiation in a high volume environment; Good analytical ability; An understanding of intellectual property rights ad similar issues affecting research contracts; Experience working within a research or academic environment; Strong interpersonal skills and an ability explain complex commercial issues to senior staff within the university

This is a great opportunity to join the research contracts team of a world class UK university. UCL is ranked 16th in the world according to the most recent Timed Higher Education Wold University Rankings and also retains its rank as 7th in the world for the second year running as indicated by Web of Sciences Essential Science Indicators (ESI) citations data. Moreover, UCLs research activity a primary means through which we generate public benefit continues to grow. In 2019-20 UCL had its most successful year ever for new research awards, with £520 million in new grants won. Between April 1 2019 and March 31 2020 UCL received the most UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding of any higher education institution for the second year in a row, securing 198 research and innovation grants and fellowships at a value of more than £138 million. Given our success, we are expanding our Contracting team and are looking to recruit experienced Contracts Managers to be part of the growing Research team at the University to provide contractual and governance support. You will work closely with UCL department teams to support our researchers to develop high quality contractual arrangements, protecting UCLs interests as a charitable institution. You will be responsible for drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of research collaboration agreements, MTAs, studentships, amendments and associated documents. We work with a broad base of funders and collaborators from industry, Research Councils, government departments, charities, NGOs, international agencies and other higher education institutions. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to our policies and standards, including areas such as IP, data protection and medical regulation. With excellent verbal and written communication skills you will have the natural authority to influence and drive contracts through to timely completion. You will be able able to work independently and demonstrate your skills and experience of drafting, negotiating and concluding a wide range and high volume of research contracts, preferably within or related to the Higher Education sector.
