Duties: he project aims at combining state-of-the-art coarse-grained models for the stochastic dynamics of thin elastic rods with single-molecule fluorescence-spectroscopic experiments that allow for directly measuring conformational fluctuations of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). The aim is to embed measurements of conformational fluctuations of IDPs into a comprehensive and powerful mathematical model that allows for connecting the experimental data with a full picture of the underlying conformational dynamics. The task of the PostDoc/doctoral student is to model and analyze the dynamics via stochastic differential equations on manifolds, develop numerical approximations and simulations, and fit the model to the experimental data that is generated for this purpose by the Enderlein lab
Requirements: You have a background in stochastic analysis and/or differential geometry, and some experience with or interest in numerical analysis, simulation and/or data analysis. You hold an excellent PhD degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or a related field. You like to work in an interdisciplinary team at the cutting edge of mathematical theory and experimental labs. You are fully proficient in written and spoken English

The successful applicant will work on the mathematical modelling side of subproject A02 Geometry of bio-polymer conformational dynamics” within an interdisciplinary environment provided by the stochastic modelling group of Anja Sturm, the discrete differential geometry group of Max Wardetzky and the biophysics lab headed by Jörg Enderlein. The position should be filled until May 31, 2021. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (E13 TV-L) . The position is offered with 100 % of the regular working hours.
