Position: Postdoctoral researcher in geography

Duties: The successful candidate will play an active role in the implementation of the REMIX PLACE project by conducting research in the France-Luxembourg cross-border area and supporting the capitalisation of the research results. REMIX PLACE is a research-art project undertaken in the framework of the Esch-sur-Alzette European Capital of Culture 2022. It uses methods of human geography to capture the appropriation of cross-border places by their inhabitants and documentary theater and photography to represent this attachment. Tasks; Conduct research in human/cultural geography on place attachment, placelessness, emotions in space; Using qualitative research methods, conduct the field work in the cross-border area in close cooperation with the project coordinator and the artists involved; Conduct the analysis of the empirical material; Support the cooperation with researchers and artistic director in charge of the documentary theater play; Contribute to conceptualizing and organizing the exhibition that presents the research process and outcomes; Contribute to academic publications in connection with the research area; Contribute to the overall project management; Contribute to the management of communication activities towards the public (e.g. blog, social media)
Requirements: Master in geography or social sciences and PhD in geography or social sciences; Strong experience in using qualitative research methods (e.g. field work, walking interviews); Publications in the field of human geography, local development; Experience with project management and working interdisciplinary; Strong interest for culture and art; Interest and ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team; Fluent in French and English (both in writing and speaking) is a requirement, in Luxembourgish would be an asset; Experience with cross-border areas would be considered as an advantage; Experience in communicating research results to broader audience would be considered as an advantage; Offer; An attractive salary; Working in a truly interdisciplinary project, and at the interface between research and art; A dynamic, multicultural environment; A supportive academic team
